In December 2010 I did a 26-days bus trip through New Zealand. Here you'll find my "picture diary", starting in Christchurch (South Island). Before you start to read this looong post, you should know that there are a lot of pictures taken of landscapes, animals, buildings, and cultural things. Some of you may be interested in such pictures, others not ;)

The kiwis are so smart, they built the biggest city in New Zealand on more than 50 volcanos, from which a couple are still active.

There are many hot springs at "Hot Water Beach" caused by geothermal activities. Just grab a shovel and dig a hole to enjoy your own hot water pool!

Rotorua is known for it's geothermal activities. Sulphur makes the whole region smell like rotten eggs. Here you see some springs - the origin of that smell:

Lake Taupo is the biggest lake of New Zealand. The Lake itself is actually the crater of a giant extinct volcano. The first picture shows in far distance the volcanos Ngauruhoe (a.k.a. Mt. Doom in Lord of the Rings) and Ruapehu :

Also known as Barry(No)Town, because it's population counts only 30 people. Except there is a Stray-Bus... then you'll find 60 people in Barrytown! The only thing you can do as a tourist is a dress-up party in it's small pub, which is a hostel as well.
